ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (10/22/05) -- Liz Glesne recorded 20 kills and hit .421 to go with four blocks, leading Bethel University to a three-game sweep of visiting Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon at the Robertson Center.
Glesne had just four errors in 38 attacks to go with her 20 kills, while teammate Lisa Murphy had 11 kills, hitting .450, and three blocks (one solo) for the Royals, now 15-8 overall, 5-5 in MIAC play.
Katie LaGrave (So., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) and
Sarah Bradley (So., International Falls, Minn.) had seven kills each for Augsburg, now 6-22 overall, 2-8 in MIAC play.
Bethel hit .306 as a team, converting 54 kills against just 16 errors in 124 attempts. The Royals also converted 10 team blocks and took advantage of a .032 attack percentage by Augsburg (28 kills, 24 errors in 125 attempts).
Amy Anderson had eight kills for the Royals, while Jennifer Stoa had six kills and seven blocks (one solo). Katie Snyder had 45 assists, four kills, a service ace, nine digs and two blocks, Kimmie Moehring had 24 digs and three aces, and Kayla Smith had 13 digs and two aces.
Bradley had seven digs for the Auggies to go with her seven kills, while LaGrave had a solo block to go with her seven kills.
Billie Painschab * (Sr., Howard Lake, Minn./Howard Lake-Waverly HS) had six kills and a block,
Linnea Evans * (Sr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had nine assists, seven digs and two aces,
Haley Bower (So., Brainerd, Minn.) had 14 digs, and
Alexis Johnson (Sr., Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) had 14 assists.
A 13-5 scoring run midway through the first game gave Bethel the win. Glesne had seven kills and two blocks in the first game, while Snyder had four kills and a block. Bradley had four kills and three digs for the Auggies in the first game.
Glesne had eight kills for the Royals in the second game, while Murphy had five kills and two solo blocks. LaGrave had four kills for the Auggies in the second game. In the third game, Glesne had five kills and Pam Feltmann had four for the Royals.
Augsburg closes its season with a match at Hamline on Wednesday (10/26) at 7 p.m. Bethel hosts Macalester on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
