Augsburg falls in four games at Bethany Lutheran

MANKATO, Minn. (10/3/05) -- Leslie Bremer had a double-double, with 18 kills and 10 blocks (four solo), leading Bethany Lutheran College to a victory in four games over Augsburg College in a nonconference volleyball match on Monday night at Bethany Lutheran.

Game scores were 30-20, 30-12, 28-30 and 30-18 in favor of Bethany Lutheran, now 14-6 overall. Augsburg lost its 11th match in a row to fall to 2-17 overall.

Nicole Black had 14 kills and Kristen Goebel had 13 kills, seven digs and three blocks (one solo) for the host Vikings, while Eva Voss had nine kills, seven digs and seven blocks (one solo). As a team, Bethany Lutheran converted 14 team blocks, while also hitting .260 as a team (67 kills, 21 errors in 177 attempts). Kelsey Black had 49 assists and 17 digs, and Kendra Kinzler and Britt Rinne had 18 digs each.

Augsburg was led by Katie LaGrave (So., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS), who had eight kills and a solo block. Beckie Jackson (Fr., Winthrop, Minn./Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop HS) had six kills and 10 digs, while Dani Boner (Fr., Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) and Billie Painschab * (Sr., Howard Lake, Minn./Howard Lake-Waverly HS) converted six kills each.

Linnea Evans * (Sr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had 17 assists, while Alexis Johnson (Sr., Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) had 12 assists and a service ace. Haley Bower (So., Brainerd, Minn.) had seven digs, and Britt Bogner (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) had two aces and six digs.

Augsburg returns home to Si Melby Hall for a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against St. Catherine on Wednesday (10/5) at 7 p.m.
