MINNEAPOLIS (12/7/05) -- Hannah Oken-Berg (Fr., Portland, Ore./Lincoln HS) scored 15 points with nine rebounds, one of five Carleton College players to score in double figures, as the Knights cruised to a 79-57 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.
Megan Vig (Sr., Northfield, Minn.) scored 14 points and pulled down five rebounds, and Anna Biewen (Fr., Edina, Minn.) came off the bench to score 16 points, going 6-for-8 from the field for the Knights, now 5-2 overall, 3-1 in MIAC play.
Augsburg, led by
Alissa Blood's (Jr., Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) 16 points, drops to 3-4 overall, 1-3 in MIAC play. After a 3-1 start to the season, Augsburg has lost three straight games.
Carleton never trailed in the contest and jumped out to a 24-6 advantage over the first nine minutes of play. The lead dipped below double digits just once after that point. Carleton led 43-24 at halftime and built its advantage to as many as 29 points in the second half.
Carleton forced 26 Augsburg turnovers, scoring 28 points off the miscues. The Knights hit 49.2 percent (32-of-65) from the field, while limiting Augsburg to just 37.0 percent (20-of-54) from the field. Carleton outrebounded Augsburg by a 44-30 margin.
Annie Isler (So., Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) had 10 points and eight rebounds for Carleton, while Sarah Kunelius (Fr., Eagan, Minn.) had 10 points. Sarah Lincoiln (Fr., Rockford, Minn.) had six points, six rebounds and five steals.
Augsburg's
Rosinta Stromquist (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) had 10 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Rachel Cherry (Sr., Rosemount, Minn.) had 10 points and five rebounds, and
Katie LaGrave (So., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) had nine points.
Carleton returns to MIAC play on Saturday (12/10) at 7:30 p.m. with a game at Gustavus. Augsburg returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 17, with a 4 p.m. nonconference game against the University of Chicago (Ill.).
