Women's Soccer 9/24/05 -- Augsburg 2, Carleton 1 (OT)

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (9/24/05) --
Emily Anderson * (Jr., Hudson, Wis.) scored both Augsburg College goals, including the game-winning goal 1:39 into overtime, as the Auggies remained unbeaten with a 2-1 victory over host Carleton College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game Saturday afternoon.
Anderson, last week's MIAC Player of the Week, has scored all of Augsburg's goals in its last three victories, all in league play.
The Auggies are now 6-0-2 overall, 3-0-0 in MIAC play, continuing the best unbeaten streak (eight games) to start a season in the history of Augsburg women's soccer. The previous best unbeaten start to a season was five games (4-0-1) in the 1997 season.
Carleton is now 0-5-1 overall, 0-3-1 in MIAC play.
Anderson scored her first goal on an assist from
Sarah Mueller (Fr., Green Bay, Wis./Southwest HS) in the 44th minute, carrying the ball up the right side and shooting a hard ground shot to the right corner. Her game-winning goal, assisted by
Millie Suk * (Sr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS), came at the 91:39 mark, a shot from just inside the penalty box to the near lower right corner.
Augsburg's shutout streak ended in the 71st minute, as Carleton scored off a corner kick by Sophie Wood. The Auggie shutout streak, which lasted for parts of five games, was snapped at 400 minutes.
Carleton outshot Augsburg by a 10-7 margin. Anderson had three shots for Augsburg, while
Katie Medd (Fr., Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) had two shots. Melley Turner and Nicky Bloom had two shots apiece for Carleton.
Goalkeeper
Maggie DeGroot (Fr., Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) made one save to pick up the win for the Auggies. Emily Muirhead started in goal for Carleton but was relieved by Jenna Bernhardson, who made one save.
Both teams return to MIAC action on Wednesday (9/28). Carleton hosts St. Thomas at 4 p.m., while Augsburg hosts Macalester at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
