Men's Basketball 1/11/06 -- Concordia-Moorhead 89, Augsburg 63
BOXSCORE
MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/11/06) -- If Concordia College-Moorhead men's basketball head coach Duane Siverson could have ordered a script before Wednesday's game, it would have been exactly the way the game turned out in the Cobbers' 89-63 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over Augsburg College at Concordia's Memorial Auditorium.
Concordia was 0-2 since losing preseason All-American Keith Eckhoff and had struggled to find a consistent offensive rhythm for a full game. That doubt has been put to rest as Concordia shot 65.1 percent (28-of-43) from the field for the game and 85.7 percent (6-of-7) from behind the arc in the second half.
The much-needed win pushes Concordia's conference record to 4-3 while they improve to 5-6 overall. The Cobbers are one of five teams in the league that are tied for third place with a 4-3 mark. The Auggies, who led 2-0 and never threatened after that, fell to 2-5 in the MIAC and 3-9 overall.
Mark Dixon had a monster game for the Cobbers. He finished with a career-high 20 points and delighted the crowd with two highlight reel dunks. Dixon came off the bench to score his 20 points in 24 minutes of action. Dixon went 8-of-9 from the floor and was 1-of-1 from 3-point range. He also had a game-high eight rebounds.
Two other Cobber players finished in double digits. Ryan Templeton was 3-of-4 from behind the arc and knocked down several key shots with the shot clock winding down. He finished 16 points, 10 more than he had in any other game in the first 10 games of the year. Brock Citterman, starting for the first time in his career, had 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Augsburg was led by
Dan Graf (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS). Graf had a team-high 18 points. He was 4-of-7 from 3-point range and collected four rebounds, second-best on the team. Matthew Huttner (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn./Rosemount HS) had a team-high seven rebounds to go along with nine points. Justin Koslowski (So., Wausau, Wis./Wausau Newman HS) scored 12 points with four assists and two steals.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday (1/14) at 3:15 p.m., as Concordia plays at Bethel and Augsburg hosts Gustavus.
