Women's Basketball 1/30/06 -- Carleton 63, Augsburg 40

BOXSCORE

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/30/06) -- Hannah Oken-Berg (Fr., Portland, Ore./Lincoln HS) scored 15 points, grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds and blocked four shots for her first career double-double as host Carleton College held Augsburg College to six first-half field goals in blitzing the Auggies, 63-40, in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Monday night at Carleton's West Gym.

Sarah Kunelius (Fr., Eagan, Minn.) scored 13 points, 11 in a 1:30 stretch in the second half, for the Knights (11-8, 9-5 MIAC). Sarah Lincoln (Fr., Rockford, Minn.) added nine points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots as Carleton blocked 10 shots as a team.

Rosinta Stromquist (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) paced Augsburg (4-14 overall, 2-12 MIAC) with 10 points and five rebounds and Katie LaGrave (So., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) added eight points and 10 boards. Kristina Lurken (So., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) also scored eight points for the Auggies.

The game was never really in doubt as the Auggies scored only two points in the game's first 13 minutes, 32 seconds. The ice-cold shooting by Augsburg allowed the Knights to build an early 19-2 lead and a 29-12 halftime advantage.

Carleton would stretch the lead to as many as 32 points in the second half as Kunelius went on a personal 11-0 spurt. She nailed three consecutive three-pointers and converted a feed inside from Annie Isler (So., Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS), turning a 19-point lead into a 30-point spread. Carleton was able to rest its starters, as no players had more than 21 minutes of action.

Carleton returns to action on Wednesday (2/1), hosting Gustavus Adolphus College at West Gym at 7:30 p.m. The Auggies host St. Thomas at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday as well.
