MINNEAPOLIS (10/21/06) -- R.J. Jackson (Jr., Roseville, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) rushed for 93 yards and three touchdowns, leading Carleton College to a 37-7 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football game Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

Tight end Andrew Neumann (Sr., Somerset, Wis.) caught six passes for 73 yards and a touchdown to lead the Auggies, while Arthur Minus (Jr., St. Paul, Minn./Humboldt HS) rushed 22 times for 79 yards.

Carleton (4-3 overall, 2-3 MIAC) scored on the opening kickoff, as Chris Gardner (So., Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East HS) took the return 85 yards for the score 16 seconds into the game. Carleton broke a three-game losing streak with the win over the Auggies.

The Knights built a 23-0 halftime lead before Augsburg (0-7 overall, 0-5 MIAC) scored on a 22-yard pass from quarterback Jordan Berg (So., Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East HS) to Neumann. The Auggie drive -- 12 plays, 74 yards, covering 5:58 -- was the longest drive for either team in the game.

Jackson scored on a six-yard run in the second quarter, then added touchdowns of two and four yards in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring. Matt Frank (So., Caledonia, Minn.) scored on a 13-yard pass from Darren Caspers (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.) in the final seconds of the first half, and Tim Kane (So., Hopkins, Minn.) connected on a 35-yard field goal.

Carleton outgained Augsburg by a 349-279 margin in the game, including 216 yards passing to 179 for the Auggies. Caspers completed 15-of-28 passing for 195 yards for the Knights, while Berg completed 21-of-35 for 160 yards for the Auggies.

Ricky Schreier (Sr., Maplewood, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) caught eight passes for 53 yards for the Auggies, while James Strand (Fr., Pequot Lakes, Minn./Brainerd HS) rushed six times for 56 yards.

For Carleton, Frank caught eight passes for 80 yards, while Jackson added 50 yards on five catches to his 93-yard rushing total. Phil Blue (Fr., Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North HS) rushed eight times for 39 yards.

Linebacker Mike Matson (Sr., Cedar, Minn./St. Francis HS) led the Auggies with 11 tackles (three solo), marking the 14th time in his last 17 games that he has had double-figure totals in tackles. He also had a fumble recovery. Andrew Bergeson (Fr., Red Wing, Minn.) added nine tackles (two solo), and Pat Hoban (Fr., St. Paul, Minn./Humboldt HS) and Alex Glasenapp (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) had eight tackles apiece. Glasenapp had two sacks in the game, while Brandon Rudenick (Jr., Nicollet, Minn.) had a sack, and Hoban and Derick Kelly (So., Blaine, Minn.) split a sack.

For Carleton, Randy Foss (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) led all players with 12 tackles (five solo), including a forced fumble, while James Colbenson (Jr., Rushford, Minn./Rushford-Peterson HS) and Nick Cesarek (So., Eagan, Minn./Eastview HS) had nine tackles apiece. Mike Gravelle (Sr., Austin, Minn.) had an interception.

Both teams return to MIAC action next Saturday (10/28) at 1 p.m., with Augsburg playing at Gustavus and Carleton hosting Concordia-Moorhead.
