Late first-half run gives Carleton lead, 74-57 win over Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS (11/29/06) -- Hannah Oken-Berg (So., Portland, Ore./Lincoln HS) scored 20 points on 10-of-12 shooting, pulling down 10 rebounds and blocking five shots, as her Carleton College women's basketball team claimed a 74-57 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.

Katie LaGrave * (Jr., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) had 16 points, four rebounds and two steals for Augsburg, now 0-2 overall, 0-1 in MIAC play. Kristina Lurken * (Jr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had 15 points, six assists and four rebounds.

Annie Isler (Jr., San Angelo, Texas/Hopkins HS) added 13 points and Sarah Lincoln (So., Rockford, Minn.) had 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three blocks for the Knights, now 4-0 overall, 1-0 in MIAC play.

Megan Krumrie (So., Elk Mound, Wis.) had 11 points for the Auggies, while Brietta Schluender (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had 10 points and six rebounds. Michelle Richter (So., Chaska, Minn.) had a team-high seven rebounds.

Carleton pulled away from Augsburg late in the first half, using a 16-6 run over the final 5:21 of the period to take a 41-32 lead at halftime. Oken-Berg and Lincoln had 10 points and five rebounds each in the first half. With her five blocks, Oken-Berg is now tied for Carleton's career lead in blocked shots with 74, in her 29th career game.

Carleton led by as many as 24 points in the second half before Augsburg trimmed the lead to 17 points in the closing minutes.

The Knights hit 51.7 percent (31-of-60) from the field, while Augsburg hit 28.9 percent (22-of-76). Carleton outrebounded Augsburg by a 44-40 margin and claimed 10 blocked shots.

Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (12/2) at 3 p.m. with an MIAC game at Gustavus. Carleton is back in action on Monday (12/4) at 7:30 p.m. with a game at St. Benedict.
