Katie LaGrave (Jr., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) earned a spot on an all-tournament team for the third time this season, this time being named to the elite team for Augsburg College at the Augustana College (Ill.) Invitational, held Friday and Saturday at the Carver Physical Education Center.
As a team, Augsburg went 1-3 at the Augustana Invitational. On Friday, the Auggies opened with a three-game loss to Wisconsin-Eau Claire (30-26, 30-19, 30-20), the No. 5-ranked team in the latest NCAA Division III national rankings. The Auggies followed that match with a three-game victory over host Augustana (Ill., 30-23, 30-22, 30-25). On Saturday, Augsburg lost both its matches in four games, falling to St. Ambrose (Iowa, 30-21, 30-27, 21-30, 30-27) and Loras (Iowa, 23-30, 30-28, 30-26, 30-21). Augsburg is now 7-12 overall.
LaGrave, who is hitting .336 on the season with a team-high 242 kills, claimed 49 kills and a .321 attack percentage (14 errors in 109 attempts) on the weekend, to go along with a team-high 12 blocks (six solo) and 13 digs.
In Friday's matches, LaGrave had six kills and four blocks (three solo) against Wisconsin-Eau Claire and nine kills and three blocks (one solo) against Augustana. On Saturday, LaGrave collected 14 kills and a block against St. Ambrose, then claimed a career-high 20 kills, hitting .447, and four blocks (two solo) against Loras. LaGrave has hit double-digits in kills in 13 of Augsburg's 19 matches this season.
Dani Boner (So., Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) connected on 34 kills, to go along with a team-high eight service aces, 18 digs and seven blocks (four solo). She claimed 10 kills against Wisconsin-Eau Claire, five kills against Augustana, 10 kills against St. Ambrose and nine kills and five blocks (three solo) against Loras.
Barbara Simmons (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) claimed 33 kills and nine blocks (three solo) on the weekend, including eight kills against Augustana, 11 kills against St. Ambrose and 11 kills against Loras.
Julie Jenkins (So., Edina, Minn.) continued her all-around performance this season, with 26 kills, a team-high 81 assists, 27 digs and 10 blocks (five solo). She had six kills, 14 assists, nine digs and six blocks (four solo) against Wisconsin-Eau Claire; seven kills and 20 assists against Augustana; six kills, 25 assists and 11 digs against St. Ambrose; and seven kills and 22 assists against Loras.
Shanna Reed (Fr., Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels HS) claimed 66 assists and 23 digs on the weekend, while
Haley Bower (Jr., Brainerd, Minn.) had 51 digs and
Dani Tanaka (Fr., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) had 43 digs. Both Bower and Tanaka had five service aces each.
Augsburg returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday (10/4) at 7:30 p.m. with a match at St. Catherine.
