BOXSCORE
ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/30/06) --
Becky Lewis (Sr., Duluth, Minn./Marshall HS) scored in the 56th minute for Augsburg College, and Tara Mueller tied the game in the 76th minute for the College of St. Catherine, as the teams played to a 1-1 tie in two overtimes, in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game Saturday afternoon at St. Catherine.
Augsburg (6-2-2 overall, 3-1-1 MIAC) outshot St. Catherine (2-6-1 overall, 1-3-1 MIAC) by a 19-12 margin, but St. Catherine goalkeeper Danielle Wiese made 13 saves for the host Wildcats.
"Today was a very disappointing day for our team. Again, we played good soccer, but struggled to finish our scoring chances," said Augsburg head coach
Mike Navarre. "We credit St. Catherine for working hard and getting a goal off a restart to equalize the match."
After a scoreless first half, Augsburg struck first, as Lewis notched her fourth goal of the season off a cross from
Whitney Holman (Fr., New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS).
But St. Catherine tied the game, as a throw-in from Nicki Kielsa was headed into the net by Mueller.
Augsburg outshot St. Catherine by a 15-8 margin in regulation, and both teams had four shots apiece in the 20 minutes of overtime. Lewis and
Angie Neuhaus (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) had four shots apiece for Augsburg, while Jenna Undesser had four shots for St. Catherine.
Augsburg goalkeeper
Maggie DeGroot (So., Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) claimed seven saves in goal.
Both teams return to MIAC play on Wednesday (10/4), with Augsburg hosting St. Benedict at 5:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field, and St. Catherine hosting Hamline at 4 p.m.
"Although we are frustrated with our results this week, we will continue to work hard and get better," Navarre said. "I remain very confident in our team."
