MINNEAPOLIS (10/27/07) -- Baylee Reagan (Sr., Elkhorn, Neb.) and Katie Zazverskey (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) had nine kills each, leading the University of St. Thomas to a three-game sweep of host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.
As a team, the Tommies (24-4 overall, 11-0 MIAC) used 47 kills, seven aces and 11 team blocks to sweep the Auggies (13-16 overall, 4-7 MIAC) in 61 minutes, 30-22, 30-17, 30-19. The Tommies, ranked No. 13 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III national polls, completed an unbeaten MIAC regular-season title season and have the top seed in the upcoming conference postseason playoffs.
Augsburg finished its season with its best record in both overall and MIAC play since the 1998 campaign (17-11 overall, 6-5 MIAC). Laura Harms (Jr., Little Falls, Minn.) led all players with 15 kills, adding seven digs and two blocks (one solo) for the Auggies, while Melissa Larsen (Jr., Andover, Minn.) had seven kills and Breann Woelfel (So., Annandale, Minn.) had six kills, five digs and a block.
The Tommies hit .250 as a team, including a .319 effort in the second game. Katie McCaffrey (Jr., Fort Collins, Colo.) had eight kills and six blocks (two solo), while DeJurnett Prioleau (Jr., St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) had eight kills and four blocks. Emily Foster (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins HS) had 34 assists, 14 digs and four blocks. Aly McConnell (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska HS) had 10 digs.
For Augsburg, Julie Jenkins (Jr., Edina, Minn.) had 13 assists, eight digs and three blocks. Kristina Lurken (Sr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had five kills and Amanda Rueb (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./West Lutheran HS) had three blocks.
Shanna Reed (So., Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had 16 assists and seven digs, while
Haley Bower (Sr., Brainerd, Minn.) had 13 digs and
Jessica Hilk (Fr., Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) had 12 digs.
