WINONA, Minn. (10/6/07) -- Bethany Kaufmann scored the lone goal of the game in the 80th minute, leading St. Mary's University to a 1-0 victory over visiting Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Ochrymowycz Field.

Kaufmann scored from Amy Sibik to lift St. Mary's to 9-3-0 overall, 3-3-0 in MIAC play. Augsburg is now 6-4-3 overall, 4-2-1 in MIAC play.

St. Mary's outshot Augsburg by a 17-9 margin, including a 14-4 edge in the second half. Augsburg goalkeeper Maggie DeGroot * (Jr., Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) recorded a double-digit save total for the third straight game, with 10 saves.

"Today was a bad loss for us," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "Although St. Mary's is a solid team, we simply have to play better than how we played today. I'm disappointed with the effort, but I'm confident that we will regroup and play well the rest of the way."

Lacey Hoover (Fr., Duluth, Minn./Central HS) and Whitney Holman (So., New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had two shots each for the Auggies.

Augsburg hosts Gustavus in an MIAC game on Tuesday (10/9) at 7:30 p.m., while St. Mary's returns to action on Friday (10/12) at 7:30 p.m. with a game at Macalester.

"Games like today leave a bad taste in your mouth," Navarre said. "Fortunately, we don't have to wait too long to play again as we have an opportunity to get back on track against a tough Gustavus team on Tuesday."
