MINNEAPOLIS (11/28/07) -- Annie Isler (SR, San Angelo, Texas/Hopkins HS) scored 12 of her team-high 16 points in the second half, as her Carleton College women's basketball team rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to top host Augsburg College 74-63 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.
Shannon Renne (FY, Nicollet, Minn.) led Augsburg (2-2 overall, 0-1 MIAC) with 16 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Christa Suedbeck (JR, Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) had 14 points, seven rebounds, three steals and four blocked shots. Katie LaGrave * (SR, Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) scored 13 points with two steals, and Kristina Lurken * (SR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) scored 11 points with eight rebounds and seven assists.
Hannah Oken-Berg (JR, Portland, Ore./Lincoln HS) scored 14 points with five rebounds for Carleton (2-1 overall, 1-0 MIAC), while Ally Weaver (FY, Iowa City, Iowa/West HS) scored all 12 of her points in the second half for the Knightts, adding four rebounds and three steals. Isler added six rebounds.
The Auggies led for most of the first half, hitting 42.4 percent (14-of-33) from the field and leading 37-26 at halftime. Renne, Suedbeck and Lurken scored nine points apiece for the Auggies in the opening stanza.
But Carleton rallied back in the second half behind 58.3 percent (14-of-24) shooting from the field, in a game that saw five lead changes and four ties. Carleton took its first lead of the second half with 7:58 remaining, 54-53, and outscored the Auggies 20-10 the rest of the way. Carleton outrebounded Augsburg by a 45-33 margin, including a 24-11 advantage in the second half. The Knights also converted from the free-throw line, hitting 24-of-36 compared to just 7-for-17 for Augsburg.
Michelle Richter (JR, Chaska, Minn.) had six rebounds and three assists for the Auggies. Anna Biewen (JR, Edina, Minn.) and Amber Connor (SO, Rosemount, Minn.) scored seven points apiece for Carleton, with Connor adding seven rebounds.
Both teams return to MIAC play on Saturday (12/1) at 1 p.m., with Augsburg hosting Gustavus and Carleton hosting Concordia-Moorhead.
