Women's Basketball 2/17/07 -- Bethel 85, Augsburg 77

MINNEAPOLIS (2/17/07) -- Heather Davis (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn./Minnetonka HS) scored 23 poitns with five rebounds and three steals, leading Bethel University to an 85-77 victory over Augsburg College in a season-ending Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
Bethel, which finished its season at 12-13 overall, 11-11 in MIAC play, had four players score in double-figures -- Emily Uzpen (Sr., Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) had 15 points with four assists and four steals, JoLynn Thielke (Sr., Holloway, Minn./Hancock HS) had 11 points with four assists and four rebounds, and Kristen Wolters (Fr., St. Cloud, Minn./Tech HS) scored 10 points.
Augsburg, which finished its season at 1-24 overall, 1-21 in MIAC play, received a career-high 28 points from
Kristina Lurken * (Jr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS). She added seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals. She connected on 14-of-16 from the free-throw line, falling one made free throw short of the school's single-game record.
Katie LaGrave * (Jr., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) fell one point shy of her career-high, scoring 24 points with seven rebounds for the Auggies.
Michelle Richter (So., Chaska, Minn.) scored nine points with nine rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Megan Krumrie (So., Elk Mound, Wis.) scored seven points, and
Jacci Mattern (So., Lakeville, Minn.) scored six points.
Bethel led for most of the first half, extending the advantage to as many as eight points and leading 41-37 at halftime. A 9-2 run gave the Royals their biggest lead at 62-49 with 11:53 left, but Augsburg was able to trim the lead as close as four points in the closing minutes.
The Royals connected on 51.7 percent (30-of-58) from the field, while Augsburg hit 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the field. Augsburg outrebounded Bethel by a 37-35 margin. Bethel had 40 points-in-the-paint to Augsburg's 20, and converted 21 points off of 20 Augsburg turnovers. Augsburg converted 17 points off of 17 Bethel turnovers.
