Woelfel earns All-Tournament Team honors, Augsburg goes 3-1 to place second at Univ. of Chicago (Ill.) Gargoyle Classic.

CHICAGO (9/15/07) -- Breann Woelfel (So., Annandale, Minn.) earned All-Tournament Team honors for Augsburg College, as the Auggies went 3-1 in its matches to place second at the University of Chicago (Ill.) Gargoyle Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Ratner Athletics Center.

On Friday, Augsburg opened the tournament with a three-game sweep of host Chicago (30-15, 30-18, 30-27), but fell in three games to eventual tournament champion Mount Union (Ohio, 33-31, 30-22, 31-29). On Saturday, Augsburg swept Defiance (Ohio, 30-23, 30-26, 30-9) and claimed a win in four games over Trinity Christian (Ill., 32-30, 31-33, 30-20, 30-26).

Woelfel led all players with 48 kills, hitting .268 on the weekend. She also had eight blocks and 20 digs. She had 10 kills in the Mount Union match, 10 kills and three blocks against Defiance and 20 kills, 12 digs and two blocks against Trinity Christian.

Laura Harms (Jr., Little Falls, Minn.) collected 37 kills, 21 digs, eight service aces and a team-high 24 blocks (three solo) on the weekend. She had eight blocks (one solo) against Chicago, nine kills and seven blocks against Defiance and 16 kills and eight blocks (one solo) against Trinity Christian.

Kristina Lurken (Sr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) claimed 38 kills, 28 digs, three blocks and six service aces on the weekend, including 12 kills against Chicago and 10 kills against Trinity Christian. Julie Jenkins (Jr., Edina, Minn.) had 31 kills, 69 assists, eight service aces, 23 digs and 12 blocks (one solo) on the weekend, including an 11-kill, five-block (one solo) effort against Trinity Christian.

Amanda Rueb (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./West Lutheran HS) claimed 22 kills and seven blocks (one solo) on the weekend, while Shanna Reed (So., Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had 84 assists, six service aces and 20 digs. Haley Bower (Sr., Brainerd, Minn.) had 85 digs on the weekend, while Dani Tanaka (So., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) had 45 digs and Jessica Hilk (Fr., Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) had 32 digs.

Augsburg, now 7-7 overall, returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday (9/19) at 7 p.m., with a home match against Carleton at Si Melby Hall.
