MINNEAPOLIS (9/19/07) -- Julie Jenkins (Jr., Edina, Minn.) claimed her fifth career triple-double for Augsburg College, but Carleton College's Annie Eckhoff (So., Northfield, Minn.) hit .500 with 17 kills and seven blocks, as visiting Carleton rallied for a win in four games over Augsburg in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.
Eckhoff had 17 kills just one attack error in 32 attempts in her .500 performance, one of four players to record 10-plus kills for Carleton (10-0 overall, 2-0 MIAC), the No. 25-ranked team in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III national poll. Sarah Kunelius (Jr., Eagan, Minn.) recorded 14 kills with six blocks, Libby Ritz (Sr., Madison, Wis./West HS) had 12 kills and five blocks (one solo), and Samantha Hendricks (Sr., Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) had 10 kills, seven digs, two blocks and two service aces.
Jenkins scored her second triple-double of the season with 15 kills, 18 assists and 17 digs, and added three blocks for the Auggies (7-8 overall, 0-2 MIAC). Laura Harms (Jr., Little Falls, Minn.) recorded her second 20-kill match of the season with 20 kills, 10 digs and five blocks. Breann Woelfel (So., Annandale, Minn.) had 12 kills and eight digs.
Shanna Reed (So., Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had 33 assists and 12 digs for the Auggies, Haley Bower (Sr., Brainerd, Minn.) had 20 digs and Jessica Hilk (Fr., Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) had 10 digs. Kristina Lurken (Jr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had seven kills, nine digs and a block, and Melissa Larsen (Jr., Andover, Minn.) had five kills and three blocks (one solo).
Harms had six kills, while Woelfel had four kills and Jenkins had four kills, six digs and five assists in the first game, as Augsburg led by as many as seven points (27-20) in the opening set. Eckhoff responded with seven kills and three blocks, hitting .538, in the second game for Carleton. The Knights rallied from an early 11-7 deficit to lead by as many as eight points in the second frame.
In the third game, an 8-0 scoring run gave Carleton a 16-11 lead, en route to the win. Eckhoff and Ritz had five kills apiece for Carleton. Hendricks and Megan La Chapelle (Jr., Eagan, Minn.) had four kills apiece in the final game for the Knights.
Megan La Chapelle had nine kills, 16 digs and four blocks for Carleton. Heather La Chapelle (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) had 49 assists, 16 digs and three blocks, and Laura Barsness (So., Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) had 27 digs.
Augsburg returns to action on Friday (9/21) at 7 p.m. with an MIAC match at St. Benedict. Carleton has an MIAC match at St. Thomas on Saturday (9/22) at 3 p.m.
