MINNEAPOLIS (9/29/07) -- Angie Neuhaus (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) scored two goals and Katie Medd (Jr., Mankato, Minn./East HS) claimed two assists, as Augsburg College scored a 3-0 win over the visiting College of St. Catherine in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game Saturday night at Edor Nelson Field.

Goalkeeper Maggie DeGroot * (Jr., Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) recorded her 21st career shutout and second in a row with a three-save effort for Augsburg (5-3-2 overall, 3-1-1 MIAC). Lacey Hoover (Fr., Duluth, Minn./Central HS) also scored a goal for the Auggies.

Elizabeth Schreiner (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) recorded eight saves in goal for St. Catherine (3-5-2 overall, 0-4-1 MIAC). Augsburg outshot St. Catherine by a 24-9 margin.

"Tonight was a great team effort," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "We got some early goals off some great finishes and were solid in the back. We are starting to play well and find goals in the run of play, which is very encouraging."

Augsburg opened the scoring in the eighth minute, when Neuhaus blasted home a shot from the center of the box from Medd, after a throw-in by Kelsey Watsabaugh (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn./Hopkins HS). In the 22nd minute, Hoover scored following a scramble, with Medd and Jackie Keller * (Sr., Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City West HS) getting assists.

The Auggies capped the scoring in the 72nd minute, as Neuhaus scored her second goal of the game, popping a shot past the St. Catherine goalkeeper following a deep throw-in by Samantha Thompson (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.).

"Angie has really picked up her game and is playing outstanding," Navarre said. "I'm excited that she was able to find some goals tonight; she deserved them. In fact, I believe that everyone is playing well right now."

DeGroot picked up her third shutout of the season and 21st of her Augsburg career. DeGroot is third in career shutouts in Augsburg history; Laura Hoffman (2000-03) is in second with 23 shutouts and Beth Petrik (1995-98) holds the school record, with 26.

Gina Thorwick (Fr., Maplewood, Minn./Roseville HS) had four shots for St. Catherine, while Kelsey Nistler (Fr., Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) and Megan Dean (Fr., Pomona, Calif./San Dimas HS) had two shots each.

Augsburg has a nonconference game against Wisconsin-River Falls on Monday (10/1) at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field. St. Catherine returns to action on Wednesday (10/3) at 4 p.m., hosting St. Benedict.

"We are in the middle of a tough stretch with three games in five days, but fortunately we are fairly healthy and excited to compete," Navarre said.
