Augsburg falls 99-92 to Bethel in overtime thriller.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (1/21/08) -- Annegret Nautsch (JR, Seattle, Wash./Sioux Falls HS) claimed a triple-double with 20 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocked shots, and Kiersten Hansen (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn./West Lutheran HS) scored eight of her 21 points in overtime, as Bethel University rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit to claim a 99-92 win over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Monday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.

All five Bethel (8-6 overall, 5-6 MIAC) starters scored in double figures. Erica Hormig (SO, Windom, Minn.) scored a team-high 22 points with six rebounds, and Hansen had four assists, three blocked shots, three steals and four rebounds in addition to her 21 points. Shari Laugen (SO, Blaine, Minn./Monticello HS) and Gabriella Gustafson (JR, St. Louis Park, Minn.) had point-assist double-doubles, with Laugen scoring 19 points with 10 assists and Gustafson scoring 15 points with 10 assists.

Augsburg (5-9 overall, 3-9 MIAC) fell one point short of its single-game school record for points (93 vs. St. Catherine in 1998-99 season and against Carleton in 1984-85 season), but set an MIAC single-game record for points scored by a losing team. The previous record, 90 points, was set by Bethel in a 2002 loss to Concordia-Moorhead. The teams also combined for the most points ever scored by two teams in an MIAC game with 191. The old record was 189, set by Concordia (99) and Bethel (90) in a 2000 game. The MIAC's single-team, single-game points record for women's basketball is 117, set by Concordia in a 1987 game against Hamline.

Augsburg was led by Kristina Lurken * (SR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS), who scored a double-double with 25 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Melanie Wigen (FY, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) scored 13 points with five rebounds, five assists and two steals, while Brietta Schluender (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored 13 points with five rebounds.

Christa Suedbeck (JR, Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) scored 11 points with nine rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots, and Michelle Richter (JR, Chaska, Minn.) scored 10 points with five rebounds for the Auggies. Shannon Renne (FY, Nicollet, Minn.) and Katie LaGrave * (SR, Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) scored nine points each, with LaGrave adding six rebounds, three assists and two steals, and Renne adding five rebounds.

Augsburg led 46-38 at halftime and held a 13-point lead five minutes into the second half, but the Royals rallied, outscoring the Auggies by a 48-40 margin in the second half to force overtime. There were nine lead changes and seven ties in the game.

Bethel connected on 46.2 percent (36-of-78) of its field goals, including 55.6 percent (20-of-36) in the second half. Hormig hit 11-of-14 from the field to lead the Royals. Meanwhile, Augsburg hit 42.9 percent (33-of-77) from the field, and outrebounded Bethel by a 48-46 margin. Bethel had 14 blocked shots as a team in the game.

Both teams are in MIAC play on Wednesday (1/23), with Augsburg playing at Carleton at 5:45 p.m. and Bethel hosting St. Catherine at 7:30 p.m.
