Women's Soccer 10/17/08 -- Augsburg 0, Bethel 0 (2OT)
GAME BOXSCORE | AUGSBURG SEASON STATISTICS
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (10/17/08) -- Maggie DeGroot (SR, Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) collected six saves in goal for her career-record 35th career shutout and ninth of the season, as Augsburg College scored a 0-0, two-overtime tie at Bethel University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer contest on Friday afternoon at Bethel's Ona Orth Complex.
Augsburg (8-2-4 overall, 4-0-4 MIAC) dominated the game, outshooting Bethel (7-6-2 overall, 1-6-2 MIAC) by a 21-6 margin, including a 3-1 edge in overtime. Charli Sorensen claimed 19 saves in goal for Bethel.
Augsburg remains in a second-place tie in the MIAC race with Concordia-Moorhead (5-2-2 MIAC), with 12 league points. St. Thomas has already clinched a spot in the four-team MIAC playoffs, currently with 16 league points (7-0-2 MIAC).
"I can't fault the effort of our team today. However, despite our steady possession and pressure we were not able to finish today and we must take responsibility for that," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navare. "I also have to give Bethel a lot of credit; their centerback and keeper were solid today and they had an impressive overall team effort to keep us off the scoreboard."
Katie Medd (SR, Mankato, Minn./East HS) had six shots for the Auggies, while Courtney Gamrath (FY, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and Kelsey Watsabaugh (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn./Hopkins HS) had three shots apiece.
Augsburg has a nonconference game on Sunday (10/19) at 12 p.m., hosting Clarke (Iowa) at Edor Nelson Field.
"This tie hurts but the MIAC is tough and we can't look back. We have to be ready to play hard and get some goals on Sunday against a good Clarke team," Navarre said.
