Shanna Reed# (SO, Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels HS) earned All-Tournament Team honors for Augsburg College, as the Auggies opened the 2008 volleyball season with a 3-1 record at the Ripon College Early Bird Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Head coach

On the opening day of the tournament, the Auggies began on a winning note defeating host Ripon College (25-18, 23-25, 25-14, 25-14) and the Milwaukee School of Engineering (18-25, 25-8, 25-16, 23-25, 15-10). On Saturday, the Auggies began with a tough Wisconsin-Superior team. After a hard fought battle, the Auggies came up short, losing three very close sets (26-24, 25-22, 26-24). In the final match of the tournament, the Auggies came storming back to defeat Beloit College in straight sets (25-13, 25-22, 25-22).
Reed, the starting setter for the Auggies, collected 131 assists, 21 digs, seven aces and four kills on her way to earning All-Tournament Team honors. Against MSOE, Reed recorded a career-high 42 assists as she led the Auggies in the five-set match. She also recorded more than 35 assists against both Ripon and Beloit and had more than four digs in all four matches in the tournament.
Offensively, the Auggies were led by #
Dani Boner# (JR, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) who posted a team high 42 kills. Over the course of the tournament, Boner averaged 3.0 kills per-game and 2.64 digs per-game. Also leading the Auggie offense was the trio of #
Katie Christensen# (SO, Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS), #
Barbara Simmons# (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) and #
Julie Jenkins# (SR, Edina, Minn.). Christensen recorded 38 kills, 37 digs and 11 blocks on the weekend, including kill-block double-doubles against both Ripon and MSOE. Simmons posted 34 kills and a team-high 20 blocks for the tournament while Jenkins recorded 27 kills and 10 blocks.
Defensively, the Auggies were led by #
Dani Tanaka# (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS) who recorded 78 digs, including three matches with more than 20 digs.
The Auggies generated much of their offense during the tournament with their serve. The Auggies recorded 32 service aces, which was more than 10 times their opponent's totals. Augsburg had seven different players record a service ace, led by Boner's nine.
Augsburg is next in action on Wednesday (9/3) with a home match against Crown College at Si Melby Hall.
