Auggies claim 0-0 tie at Carleton

BOXSCORE

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Augsburg College women's soccer team scored a 0-0, two-overtime tie at Carleton College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

Diana Bocklund (FY, Mahtomedi, Minn.) collected 10 saves in goal for her third collegiate shutout for the Auggies (3-6-5 overall, 1-5-2 MIAC).

"This game was rewarding in that we played hard and earned a result today against a solid team," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "We are still looking to get back to winning in the conference, but this is definitely a result we can feel good about and use to help propel us forward."

Carleton (6-5-3 overall, 4-2-2 MIAC) outshot Augsburg by a 22-3 margin, including a 5-2 advantage in the 20 minutes of overtime. The Knights also had a 7-3 advantage on corner kicks in the game. But Augsburg's defense came up big in the game, which earned Navarre's praise.

"We struggled to connect all lines of the field today, but fortunately we held solid defensively," Navarre said. "In particular, we got outstanding defensive performances today from Diana, Kristi Castelic (SR, De Pere, Wis./West De Pere HS) and Whitney Holman (SR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS). It's been a tough year and I was proud of our seniors today. We are no longer in the playoff race, a spot we are not accustomed to being in, and the seniors kept us together and helped us shutout a solid team."

Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (10/21) at 7:30 p.m., hosting Wisconsin-River Falls in a nonconference game at Edor Nelson Field.

"Now we get a break from conference play as we take on a much improved UW-River Falls team," Navarre said. "I'm expecting another close game."
