Auggies drop 1-0 decision at SMU

WINONA, Minn. -- A goal early in the second half gave host St. Mary's University a 1-0 victory over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Wednesday evening at Ochrymowycz Field.

Amy Sibik scored a goal off a feed from Kierra Metcalfe in the 50th minute for St. Mary's (9-7-1 overall, 3-6-1 MIAC), which snapped Augsburg's (5-7-5 overall, 2-6-2 MIAC) three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1).

Augsburg goalkeeper Diana Bocklund (FY, Mahtomedi, Minn.) had four saves in the contest, as St. Mary's outshot Augsburg by a 10-9 margin. Mariana Sanchez had five saves for the shutout for the Cardinals. Augsburg had five corner kicks to the Cardinals' one in the contest.

For the Auggies, Bri Dorale (FY, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) had three shots, while Lacey Hoover (JR, Duluth, Minn./Central HS) and Whitney Holman (SR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had two shots each.

Augsburg closes its 2009 season on Saturday (10/31) at 6 p.m., hosting Gustavus Adolphus at Edor Nelson Field.
