ROSEVILLE, Minn. --
Andy Grzesiak-Grimm (SO, Wyoming, Minn./St. Francis HS) led the Augsburg College men's basketball team with a 19-point, 11-rebound effort, posting the first double-double of his career as the Auggies recorded a 77-66 win over Northwestern College-Roseville. With the win, Augsburg moves to 3-0 overall, while Northwestern falls to 3-2 overall.
Grzesiak-Grimm led all players with his 19 points on a 7-for-10 shooting performance.
David Olson (SR, Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) and
Jon Cassens (SR, Prior Lake, Minn.) also finished in double figures for the Auggies, scoring 14 and 12 points respectively. Cassens also led all players with 6 assists.
Northwestern was led by Reid Berens and Brian Lecheler, who scored 16 and 11 points respectively. Stephen Hanson posted seven rebounds for the Eagles while Lecheler had a game-high three steals and three blocked shots.
After Cassens hit the opening three-pointer of the game, Northwestern countered with a 9-0 run. The Auggies were able to score 17 unanswered points as they built a 25-13 lead. Northwestern was able to cut the Augsburg lead to nine but the Auggies hit two free throws to end the half as they took a 40-30 lead into the locker room at the half. In the second half, Augsburg was able to build its lead to as many as 17 as Northwestern wasn't able to catch the hot-shooting Auggie offense.
For the game, Augsburg shot 47.5 percent (28-of-59) from the field, while Northwestern converted on 37.1 percent (23-of-62). The Auggies won the battle on the boards 39-35 and committed only 10 turnovers while forcing 12 by the Eagles.
Augsburg returns to action on Dec. 2, when the Auggies open their conference season as they travel to Hamline to start MIAC play.
