ROSEVILLE, Minn. -- The Augsburg College women's basketball team dropped a close nonconference contest to Northwestern-Roseville on Saturday at the Reynolds Center 77-68. Augsburg was led by a 20-point, 5-rebound effort by
Shannon Renne (JR, Nicollet, Minn.)
Renne posted her second 20-point effort of the season, connecting on 6-for-13 from behind the arc. Also scoring in double-figures for the Auggies was
Brittany Dyshaw (FY, Eagan, Minn.) and
Serenae Levine (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn.). Dyshaw posted the first double-double of her collegiate career with a 16-point, 10-rebound effort and Levine had 12 points, seven rebounds and eight assists.
Northwestern was led by Katie DeWitt, who had a monster afternoon recording 24 points and 18 rebounds. Also scoring in double-figures for the Eagles was Kaelee Kendrick and Ariel Liesch, who had 18 and 13 points respectively.
A very hard-fought first half found Northwestern with a 36-34 lead at the intermission. A layup by
Tracee Schrank (FY, Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area HS) at the 16:04 mark of the second half brought the Auggies within one at 44-43 but that would be as close as Augsburg would get. Northwestern went on a 16-3 run over the next six minutes to take their largest lead of the day. Augsburg rallied back and cut the Eagle lead to 73-66 with 1:16 to play but wasn't able to finish the comeback as Northwestern hung on for a 77-68 win.
For the game, Augsburg shot 34.7 percent (25-of-72) from the field while Northwestern hit 53.8 percent (35-of-65) of their shots from the floor. Augsburg won the turnover battle, forcing 23 turnovers while only committing 14 but was out-rebounded 47-36. The big difference in the contest came down to points in the paint, where Augsburg was outscored 52-22.
Augsburg is now off until Dec. 29 when they travel to Iowa to take part in the Watburg College Tournament. Augsburg will play Wartburg College on the 29th at 7 p.m. and either Wis.-Platteville or St. Norbert on Dec. 30.
