MINNEAPOLIS --
Shannon Renne (JR, Nicollet, Minn.) set a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and Augsburg College single-game record for three-pointers with nine, scoring a career-high 35 points in the Auggies' 78-66 victory over Carleton College in women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.
With the win, Augsburg (2-11 overall, 2-8 MIAC) broke an 18-game losing streak to the Knights (3-10 overall, 3-7 MIAC). Augsburg's last win over Carleton was a 65-61 win on Feb. 16, 2000.
Renne broke her own single-game school record for three-pointers in a game, a record of seven that she held with Rachael Ekholm, who initially set the mark in a 1998-99 game. She broke the MIAC's single-game record of eight, held by eight different players.
Her 35 points were two shy of Augsburg's single-game scoring record of 37, set by Stefanie Lodermeier in a 1995-96 game. It's also a single-game high for any MIAC women's basketball player this season. Renne went 12-of-18 from the field and 9-of-13 from three-point range, adding seven rebounds and two assists.
Also for Augsburg,
Tracee Schrank (FY, Reedsburg, Wis.) scored 11 points, with six assists and two steals, and Micah Sater (FY, Lino Lakes, Minn/Centennial HS) scored 10 points with seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Brittany Dyshaw (FY, Eagan, Minn.) had 13 rebounds to go along with six points.
For Carleton, Megan Erlandson (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS) led the way with 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Annie Eckhoff (SR, Northfield, Minn.) and Ally Weaver (JR, Iowa City, Iowa/West HS) scored 12 points each, and Megan Mileusnic (SR, Orono, Minn.) had nine points and nine rebounds.
A 16-4 first-half run gave Augsburg its biggest lead of the first half, 41-28 with 1:23 left, with Renne scoring 13 of the Auggies' 16 points in the run. Augsburg led 41-34 at halftime.
The Knighs slowly clawed back into the game, cutting the lead to one point five-and-a-half minutes into the second half. But Augsburg pulled away again, as a 15-5 run gave the Auggies an 11-point lead, 63-52 with 7:37 left. Augsburg led by as many as 16 points down the stretch.
The Auggies connected on 41.3 percent (26-of-63) from the field and outrebounded Carleton by a 42-37 margin. Augsburg also scored 22 points off of 24 Carleton turnovers. Carleton shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57) from the field.
Both teams return to action on Monday (1/18) at 5:45 p.m., as Augsburg plays at St. Mary's while Carleton hosts Bethel.
