BOXSCORE
MINNEAPOLIS --
Brittany Dyshaw (FY, Eagan, Minn.) and
Shannon Renne (JR, Nicollet, Minn.) each had 16 points for Augsburg, but an early St. Thomas run proved to be too much for the Auggies to overcome as they fell 88-63 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall on Wednesday night.
Augsburg (3-14 overall, 3-11 MIAC) was led by Dyshaw and Renne's 16-point performances. Dyshaw also posted a team-high six rebounds and three assists, while Renne had four rebounds and two steals. Also finishing in double figures for Augsburg was
Tracee Schrank (FY, Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area HS) and
Micha Sater (FY, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS), who had 14 and 13 points respectively. Shrank finished an impressive 12-for-13 from the free throw line.
St. Thomas (12-5 overall, 9-5 MIAC) was led by Ali Johnson, who finished with a game-high 21 points and seven rebounds. Sarah Smith led all players on the boards, pulling down eight rebounds on the night and added five points.
Over the opening 10 minutes of action, St. Thomas built a 27-8 lead. Augsburg turned up the defensive pressure and starting connecting on some their shots, allowing them to battle with the Tommies for the remainder of the contest.
Augsburg's full court pressure gave the Tommies all they could handle in the second half as the score differential was much closer, 42-38 in favor of the Tommies in the second frame. Augsburg forced 23 St. Thomas turnovers but couldn't keep up with the Tommies who connected on 49.2 percent (31-of-63) of their shots while the Auggies were only able to hit 28.6 percent (18-of-63).
Both teams return to action on Saturday (1/30) with Augsburg hosting St. Olaf and St. Thomas hosting Macalester.
