MINNEAPOLIS -- Despite outshooting St. Benedict in the second half, Augsburg couldn't overcome the halftime deficit as the Auggies fell 84-56 to league leading St. Benedict in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Si Melby Hall on Wednesday night.
Augsburg (1-9 overall, 1-6 MIAC) was led by three players in double figures.
Brittany Dyshaw (FY, Eagan, Minn.) led the Auggies with 14 points and eight rebounds, while
Serenae Levine (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn.) and
Tracee Schrank (FY, Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area HS) had 12 and 11 points respectively.
Lexi Thompson (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) recorded a game-high five steals and added six rebounds and four points.
St. Benedict (9-1 overall, 7-0 MIAC) was led by the duo of Laura Canton and Heather Gillund, who scored 19 and 18 points respectively. Point guard Devin Bowlin recorded a game-high 11 assists.
Augsburg played well in the opening minutes and found themselves tied 13-13 with 12:35 to play in the half. A 15-0 Blazer run over the next four minutes gave St. Benedict the lead they needed as they posted a 44-24 lead at the half.
Despite shooting 43.3 percent (13-for-30) in the second half, including a 4-for-5 performance from beyond the arc, Augsburg just couldn't cut the Blazer lead to single digits. Augsburg gave up 11 offensive rebounds in the half and eventually fell to St. Benedict 84-56.
For the game, Augsburg shot 36.1 percent (22-of-61), while the Blazer connected on 42.7 percent (32-of-75) of their shots. Augsburg outscored St. Ben's 9-0 in fast break points but was outscored 28-12 in points off turnovers.
Augsburg and St. Benedict both return to action on Saturday (1/9), with Augsburg traveling to Macalester and St. Ben's traveling to Concordia.
