Auggies get back in win column topping MAC 74-53

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Jon Cassens (SR, Prior Lake, Minn.) scored a game and season-high 18 points and added a game-high six assists as he led Augsburg to a 74-53 win over Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate action at the Leonard Center.

With the win, Augsburg moves to 9-3 overall (4-3 MIAC), while Macalester falls to 2-11 overall (0-8 MIAC). Augsburg was led by Cassens' 18-point performance which included a 5-for-7 afternoon from the floor and a 7-for-7 performance from the free throw line .Andy Grzesiak-Grimm (SO, Wyoming, Minn./St. Francis HS) also had a great afternoon for the Auggies scoring 16 points and posting a game-high eight rebounds.

Macalester was led by Colin Keeley who scored 12 points, three rebounds and added an assist.

Augsburg scored the opening basket of the game, a lead it would never relinquish, as the Auggies used an 8-2 run to open the game. Neither team could pull away until the final four and a half minutes of the first half when Augsburg went on 11-2 run, taking a 37-26 lead into the locker room at the intermission.

Augsburg closed the door in the second half, extending its lead to as many as 24 points. For the fourth time this season, Augsburg shot 50 percent or better from the floor, finishing 24-of-48, while holding their opponents to 40.0 percent (22-of-55). The Auggies outrebounded Macalester 34-25 and were able to get to the free throw twice as much as their opponents finishing 20-of-24 from the charity stripe.

Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (1/13) when it host Bethel Univeristy in MIAC action.
