DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Augsburg College volleyball team traveled to Loras College to participate in the annual MIAC/IIAC Border Battle over the weekend, finishing with a record of 2-2. The Auggies played two matches Friday, beating Coe College in straight sets, before losing to IIAC second-place Central College. The Auggies then defeated the University of Dubuque in a thrilling five-set match Saturday morning, before falling to Loras College later in the afternoon.

Augsburg defensive specialist Jessica Hilk (SR, Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) was selected to the All-Tournament Team for her performance throughout the weekend. Hilk recorded a team-high 58 digs in the Auggies four matches.  

Augsburg 3,  Coe 0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-18)
The Auggies (10-8) opened up the weekend on a positive note, defeating Coe (11-5) Friday afternoon in three games. As a team, Augsburg combined for 36 kills in the match, led by Amanda Unze SO, Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska HS) and Katie Christensen (SR, North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) who recorded eight kills each.

Setter Emily McCourt (FY, Sun Prairie, Wis.) registered 26 assists in the match, while Katelyn Berens (FY, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) recorded a team-high five service aces.

Jessica Hilk (SR, Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) added a team-high 15 digs, while Colleen Ourada (FY, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) and Nikolene Miller (SO, Tomahawk, Wis.) each contributed two blocks to aid the Auggie defensive effort.

Central 3, Augsburg 0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-21)
Despite 11 kills from Christensen and 10 from Ourada, Augsburg (10-9) was unable to overcome a balanced scoring effort from the Dutch (14-3.) Eight different Central players recorded kills in the match, while the Auggies were also assisted by seven kills from Unze.

Emily McCourt led the Auggies with 28 assists in the match.

Augsburg 3, Dubuque University 2 (23-25, 29-31, 25-20, 25-20, 16-14)
In a match that featured 13 Auggies who saw action, Augsburg (11-9) recorded 65 kills in the match compared to 49 for the Spartans (6-14).  Christensen, Unze and Jamila Lee (SO, Richfield, Minn.) recorded double-digit kill totals, with 13, 11, and 11 respectively. Lauren Butler (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) recorded eight kills in the match as well.

The Auggie frontline also dominated the match defensively, recording 21 blocks as a team, compared to four for the Spartans. Lee recorded a team-high five blocks in the match.

McCourt recorded a team high 43 assists, without an error in the match.    

Loras College 3, Augsburg 1 (25-13, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18)
In their final match of the weekend, the Auggies dropped the first two games before answering to win the third game against the DuHawks. Augsburg (11-10) was led offensively by the duo of Unze and Christensen, but could not overcome 15 kills each from Loras (14-5) hitters Kate Russell and Brittney Westermeyer.
