Auggies triumph at Bethel

GAME BOXSCORE

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- Scoring early and late, the Augsburg College women's soccer team claimed a 2-0 victory over Bethel University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Tuesday afternoon at Ona North Fields.

Bri Clark (SO, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) scored from Carly Reimer (SO, Eagan, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) just 6:12 into the game, and Kelsey Sorensen (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn.) clinched the win for Augsburg (4-7-2 overall, 3-4-0 MIAC) with a goal in the 84th minute.

"Great win. We did not play the best soccer, but worked hard and stayed committed to getting the job done," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre.

Augsburg won despite being outshot by a 21-9 margin by Bethel (5-6-2 overall, 2-4-1 MIAC), including a 14-3 advantage in the second half. Bethel also had nine corner kicks to Augsburg's five in the game.

Augsburg goalkeeper Katie Gajewski (FY, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) collected 13 saves in goal to record her second shutout of the season, enabling the Auggies to break a two-game losing streak in the process.

The Auggies return to action on Saturday (10/16) at 6 p.m., hosting Carleton in the Auggies' Homecoming game at Edor Nelson Field.

"Our team has been through more adversity than can reasonably be expected this year, but you still have to play hard and work to get better," Navarre said. "We can build upon this win as we prepare to play Carleton, which is currently at the top of the table, and will obviously give us a great challenge."
