Auggies top Knights in five

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Augsburg College volleyball team won a thrilling five-set match against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Carleton College on Wednesday night (17-25, 25-23, 25-27, 32-30, 15-10).

Augsburg (14-11 overall, 4-3 MIAC) dropped the first set, before rebounding to win the second set 25-23. Both teams traded leads in the third set, before Carleton (9-11, 1-6 MIAC) held on to win 27-25. In one of the most exciting sets of the season, Augsburg battled back to fend off five match-point opportunities from Carleton, before prevailing in the fourth set 32-30.

The Auggies jumped out to an early lead in the fifth set and were able to hold off a late Carleton rally to secure their third conference road win of the season. The win marks the first time since 2001 that Augsburg has defeated Carleton in Northfield.

Augsburg was led offensively by Katie Christensen (SR, North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) and Colleen Ourada (FY, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS). Christensen recorded a career-high 21 kills, while Ourada added 17. Amanda Unze (SO, Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska HS) recorded 17 kills and a .680 hitting percentage in the match, including the game winner for the Auggies in the fifth and final set.

Augsburg setter Emily McCourt (FY, Sun Prairie, Wis.) recorded a career-high 55 assists, nine digs, and two aces in the match. Augsburg defensive specialist Jessica Hilk (SR, Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) recorded a match-high 13 digs.

Augsburg returns to action this weekend with a matchup against the No. 14-ranked University of St. Thomas in St. Paul on Friday (10/15) at 7 p.m. in St. Paul.
