GAME BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS -- Courtney Gamrath (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) tied the game with a goal with 4:34 left in regulation time, and Katie Gajewski (FY, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) collected 11 saves in goal, as Augsburg College claimed a 1-1, two-overtime tie with Carleton College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Saturday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

Despite being outshot by a 25-5 margin in the game, Augsburg's defense and goalkeeper Gajewski kept the Auggies (4-7-3 overall, 3-4-1 MIAC) in the game until the closing minutes, when Gamrath took a feed from Devon Ellena (SO, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) and put a shot from 25 yards out to the top left corner of the net.

"Although they outshot us by a lot, almost all of the shots were from distance. Unfortunately one of them found the back of our net with a minute to play in the first half," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "When you concede goals like that against a great team like Carleton, you make the game more difficult than it already is. However, we got an amazing goal from Courtney Gamrath to level the match late in the second half."

The teams played scoreless soccer for the 20 minutes of overtime, though each team had solid chances, including a breakaway late in the first overtime that resulted in a save by an Augsburg defender when the ball eluded goalkeeper Gajewski in the penalty box.

"We knew this was a must win for a shot at the playoffs and pushed more players forward. Unfortunately, we could not find the game-winner," Navarre said. "Nevertheless, I'm proud of the effort, and despite all of the challenges we've faced, feel good about how we will finish this season."

Carleton (9-2-1 overall, 7-1-1 MIAC), which entered Saturday's game leading the MIAC standings, scored late in the first half, as Abby Wills (JR, Portland, Ore./St. Mary's HS) sent a high arc shot from 40 yards out over the goalkeeper's reach and into the net.

Carleton goalkeeper Kate Trenerry (SR, Rochester, Minn./Century HS) had two saves on the evening. Sarah Hagerty (SO, Boulder, Colo.) had six shots and Marlena Hartman-Filson (SO, Evergreen, Colo./Colorado Academy HS) had five shots for the Knights.

Bri Clark (SO, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) had three shots for Augsburg, while Gamrath and Ellena had the other Auggie shots in the game.

Augsburg returns to action with a nonconference game at St. Scholastica on Tuesday (10/19) at 3:30 p.m. Carleton hosts Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Sunday (10/17) at 3 p.m.
