Auggies move past Scots in four

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College volleyball team defeated Macalester College in four games (25-14, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21) in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match on Friday evening at Si Melby Hall.

Augsburg (13-10 overall, 3-2 MIAC) jumped out to an early lead in the first two sets before dropping a thrilling third set to the Scots (10-12 overall, 1-4 MIAC). The Auggies rallied to win the fourth and final set of the match. With the win Augsburg moves into sole possession of sixth place in the MIAC standings.

As a team, the Auggies recorded 48 kills in the match, against 32 for the Scots. Katie Christensen (SR, North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS), Amanda Unze (SO, Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska HS) and Colleen Ourada (FY, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) led the Augsburg offensive attack. Ourada recorded a team-high 14 kills for Augsburg, while Unze and Christensen recorded nine kills. Nikolene Miller (SO, Tomahawk, Wis.) added eight kills and six blocks (two solo) for Augsburg.

Setter Emily McCourt (FY, Sun Prairie, Wis.) recorded 43 assists and a career-high six service aces in the match. Libero Jessica Hilk (SR, Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) led the Auggies with 18 digs, while Katelyn Berens (FY, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) added 14 digs and two aces in the match.

Macalester defensive specialist Glasha Marcon (SO, Richmond, Calif./Albany HS) recorded a match-high 30 digs. Marja Mucic (SR, Zenica, Bosnia/St. Louis Park HS) had 10 kills, while Taylor Tinkham (JR, St. Louis Park, Minn.) had six kills and six blocks (three solo).

The Auggies host No. 13-ranked and first-place St. Olaf College tomorrow afternoon (10/9) at 3 p.m. in a MIAC match.
