MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg women's basketball team cut the Bethel lead to one in the second half but the Auggies were not able to overcome the Royals down the stretch as they fell 83-73 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
Augsburg (3-21 overall, 3-18 MIAC) was led by four players in double figures.
Serenae Levine (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn.) and
Brittany Dyshaw (FY, Eagan, Minn.) led the way with 17 and 16 points respectively, while
Lexi Thompson (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and
Shannon Renne (JR, Nicollet, Minn.) finished with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Bethel (10-14 overall, 9-12 MIAC) was led by the duo of Scotti Moats and Taylor Sheley, who finished with 23 and 19 points respectively.
Augsburg cut a 10 point half time deficit to one off a
Brittany Dyshaw layup at the 11:55 mark. Two timely three-pointers by the Royals stretched the Bethel lead back to 10. Augsburg found themselves in foul trouble in the second half and couldn't close the gap as Bethel hung for an 83-73 win.
For the game, Augsburg shot 40.3 percent (25-of-62), while the Royals converted on 48.1 percent (26-of-54) of their shots. Augsburg won the turnover battle, forcing 24 while only committing 18 but was outrebounded 43-28. The big difference in the game came down to the free throw line where Bethel was able to hit 28-of-37, while Augsburg was only able to convert on 19-of-24.
Augsburg returns to action for its final game of the season on Friday (2/19) with a home game against St. Mary's University.
