Augsburg falls to Concordia in MIAC action

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- David Olson (SR, Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) scored 19 points on 6-for-10 shooting but Augsburg couldn't keep up with Concordia down the stretch as the Auggies fell to the Cobbers 76-63 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Memorial Auditorium.

Augsburg (14-6 overall, 9-6 MIAC) had two players finish in double figures, led by Olson's 19 point effort to which he added three rebounds and three assists. Jon Cassens (SR, Prior Lake, Minn.) finished with 12 points, four rebounds and three assists. Andy Grzesiak-Grimm (SO, Wyoming, Minn./St. Francis HS) led Augsburg on the boards with seven rebounds and chipped in seven points and an assist.

Concordia (9-12 overall, 5-11 MIAC) was led by John Fraase, who was the only player to finish with a double double, posting 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Augsburg trailed 36-31 at the half but was able to tie things up on the opening two possessions of the second session. Concordia stretched its lead to 10 before the Auggies put together a 5-0 run to bring the score to 65-60 with just under two minutes left to play. Augsburg was not able to convert down the stretch as the Cobbers held on for the 76-63 win.

For the game, Augsburg shot 42.9 percent (24-of-56) from the field, while Concordia hit 53.1 percent (26-of-49) of its shots. The Cobbers held a 31-29 advantage on the boards and forced a season-high 20 turnovers by the Auggies.

Augsburg and Concordia both return to action on Saturday (2/6) with Augsburg hosting St. Olaf and Concordia hosting St. John's.
