MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College volleyball team cruised to a straight-set victory (25-17, 25-11, 25-13) over Crown College in a nonconference match on Monday evening at Si Melby Hall.
Fifteen different Augsburg (7-7 overall) players saw time in a match that featured 40 Augsburg kills, compared to 14 for Crown (2-9 overall). The Auggie offense was led offensively by the duo of
Amanda Unze (SO, Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska HS) and
Nikolene Miller (SO, Tomahawk, Wis.) Unze recorded a team-high nine kills in the match, while Miller continued her solid play, recording eight kills and registering a .500 hitting percentage.
Micha Sater (SO, Fridley, Minn./Centennial HS),
Katie Christensen (SR, North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) and middle hitter
Michelle Barum (JR, Prior Lake, Minn.) each aided the Augsburg attack. Sater and Christensen recorded five and four kills apeice, while Barum was a perfect 4-for-4 on attack opportunities.
Augsburg also recieved a strong defensive effort for the match, allowing just 14 kills for the Storm offense. Miller and
Emily McCourt (FY, Sun Prairie, Wis.) each recorded three blocks apiece in the match, while Sater,
Denielle Johnson (SR, Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) and
Lauren Butler (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) all recorded seven digs.
McCourt recorded 32 assists in the match to lead all participants.
The Auggies return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday (9/22) at 7 p.m. at Hamline. Augsburg's next home contest is scheduled for Friday (9/24) at 7 p.m., hosting St. Benedict at Si Melby Hall.
