ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg College volleyball team picked up its first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season on Wednesday evening, defeating Hamline University in straight sets, 25-19, 25-16, 25-17.
After trailing early in the first set, Augsburg (8-7 overall, 1-1 MIAC) domintated the second and third sets of the match to beat the Pipers (7-8 overall, 0-2 MIAC) for the second consecutive season.
Katie Christensen (SR, North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) played her best all-around game of the season to lead the Augsburg attack. Christensen recorded 12 kills, 11 digs and four aces in the match, while teammate
Amanda Unze (SO, Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska HS) added seven kills in the Auggie win.
Nikolene Miller (SO, Tomahawk, Wis.) and
Colleen Ourada (FY, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) recorded six and five kills respectively for Augsburg, while setter
Emily McCourt (FY, Sun Prairie, Wis.) recorded 32 assists and four aces in the match.
The Auggies also received strong performances from defensive specialists
Katelyn Berens (FY, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) and
Jessica Hilk (SR, Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS.) Berens and Hilk recorded 13 and 11 digs respectively.
Sam Greeney-Hamlin recorded seven kills to lead the Piper offensive attack.
The Auggies return home and will face conference foe St. Benedict on Friday (9/24) evening at 7 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
