BOXSCORE
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College women's basketball team put together one of its most solid performances of the season, led by four players scoring in double-figures, as the Auggies claimed a 68-59 victory over Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Si Melby Hall on Wednesday night.
Serenae Levine (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) and
Brittany Dyshaw (SO, Eagan, Minn.) both posted double-doubles to lead Augsburg (3-9 overall, 2-7 MIAC) on the night, marking the first time the Auggies have had two point-rebound double-doubles in a single game since Jan. 30, 2008.
Levine recorded her second consecutive double-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, while Dyshaw claimed 10 points, 13 rebounds and four assists. Also scoring in double figures for Augsburg was
Nikki Borkhuis (JR, Watertown, S.D.) and
Katie Ahlstrom (SO, St. Paul, Minn. /Henry Sibley HS). Borkhuis scored a season-high 10 points and added eight rebounds, while Ahlstrom recorded 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor.
Macalester (2-10 overall, 2-7 MIAC) was led by Majra Mucic, who scored a game-high 21 points and added eight rebounds and two steals.
Both teams played an evenly matched first half of basketball and it was the Auggies who took a 28-27 lead into the locker room at the intermission. Augsburg used a key 10-0 run over a 3:17 span to take its largest lead of the night 51-40 with just over eight minutes to play. During that run,
Lexi Thompson (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) converted on a big fast break lay-up and was fouled. Levine grabbed the offensive rebound on Thompson's missed free-throw and was fouled, converting on both free throws, marking a big shift in momentum for the Auggies. Macalester cut the Augsburg lead to five, but couldn't get any closer as Augsburg converted its free throws down the stretch to claim the win.
For the game, Augsburg shot 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the floor and held the Scots to a season-low 26.8 percent (19-of-71). Augsburg claimed a huge advantage on the boards, outrebounding Macalester 58-43 and outscored the Scots 32-18 in points in the paint.
Augsburg and Macalester both return to action on Saturday (1/12) with Augsburg traveling to St. Joseph to take on the College of St. Benedict, while Macalester plays host to St. Olaf.
