MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College women's basketball team fell 91-70 to a tough Gustavus Adolphus College team in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Monday night at Si Melby Hall.

Augsburg (3-11, 2-9 MIAC) was led by Brittany Dyshaw (SO, Eagan, Minn.), who finished with 17 points, five rebounds and a game-high five steals. The Augsburg reserves had one of their best nights of the season, outscoring the GAC bench 36-27. Courtney Barthel (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS), Brittany Zins (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) and Kandace Bostick (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./Burnsville HS) all had career-high scoring nights for the Auggies. Barthel finished with 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the floor, while Zinz collected 12 points and seven rebounds. Bostick tallied eight points, three rebounds and three steals in 22 minutes of action.

Gustavus finished with five players in double figures, led by Molly Mathiowetz, who recorded the only double-double of the night with 22 points and 12 rebounds.

The first six minutes of action were very evenly matched. Augsburg then struggled to put the ball in the basket for the next six minutes, allowing hot-shooting Gustavus to string together a 25-4 run, which proved to be the difference in the game.

After trailing 47-24 at the intermission, Augsburg was able to come out and play a solid second-half of basketball outscoring Gustauvs 46-44 in the second-half. The Auggies cut the Gustavus lead to 12 with four-and-a-half  minutes to play but couldn't get any closer as the first-half lead proved to be too much to overcome.

For the game Augsburg shot 34.8 percent (23-of-66) from the field, while the hot-shooting Gusties connected on 55.0 percent (33-of-60) of their shots. The Gusties claimed a 42-33 advantage on the boards but Augsburg won the turnover battle forcing a season-high 29 Gustavus turnovers.

Augsburg and Gustavus both return to action Wednesday (1/19) with Augsburg traveling to Winona to take on St. Mary's University and Gustavus traveling to Arden Hills to take on Bethel University.
