STINGER CLASSIC WEBSITE
SUPERIOR, Wis.-- The Augsburg College volleyball team competed at the 2011 Stinger Classic this Friday and Saturday (10/14-15) at the University of Wisconsin-Superior campus. For the weekend, Augsburg finished in fourth-place overall and posted an official record of 1-2, including a victory of the host UW-Superior Yellowjackets Saturday morning.

Katelyn Berens (SO, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) was named to the eight person All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the event. For the tournament, Berens recorded 31 digs and two aces.

The Auggies jumped out to an early lead in the match, winning two of the first three sets, but were unable to claim the victory as the Thunderwolves from Thunder Bay, Ontario, rallied for the win.
Colleen Ourada (SO, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) led Augsburg with 15 kills, while
Maggie Zirk (JR, Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) added 10 kills in the loss. Augsburg setter
Shelby Vogel (FY, Sheldon, Iowa) recorded a career-best 36 assists, while
Katelyn Berens (SO, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) recorded 10 digs.
Due to NCAA rules regarding matches against Canadian opponents, the match was played as an exhibition contest for Augsburg and does not effect the team's overall record or statistics.

Jamila Lee (JR, Richfield, Minn.) added seven in the loss.

Tournament champion Bethel jumped out to an early lead against Augsburg in the final match of the Stinger Classic for both teams and never looked back en route to a straight-set win over the Auggies (12-8 overall, 5-2 MIAC).
