MINNEAPOLIS -- Middle hitter
Nikolene Miller (JR, Tomahawk, Wis.) hit .529 while recording 10 kills, leading Augsburg College to a three-set sweep of Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match on Friday at Si Melby Hall.
Miller had just one error in 17 attack attempts, recording 10 kills with two blocks to lead Augsburg (15-10 overall, 7-4 MIAC) to the victory (25-17, 25-19, 25-15) in a match that lasted just 71 minutes.
Colleen Ourada (SO, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) had 10 kills, a service ace, five digs and three blocks for the Auggies, while
Maggie Zirk (JR, Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) had eight kills and a block.
Tabby Roh (FY, La Crosse, Wis./Central HS) hit .545 in recording seven kills and four blocks (two solo), and
Jamila Lee (JR, Richfield, Minn.) had six kills and a match-high five blocks (one solo).
As a team, Augsburg hit .319 (43 kills, 14 blocks in 91 attempts), its second-best hitting percentage of the season, while also collecting 9.5 team blocks in the match. Augsburg has had seven or more team blocks in 17 of its 25 matches this season.
Augsburg trailed just once at the beginning of the first set, building leads of 9-5 and 17-12 en route to the victory. The Auggies never trailed in the second set, building leads of 14-8 and 19-13 to collect the win. Miller had five kills in six attempts in the second set, while Lee had four kills in five attempts.
The third set was a back-and-forth battle early, before Augsburg used a 14-6 scoring run to take a 21-13 advantage. Zirk and Ourada had six kills each in the third set, with Lee recording three blocks (one solo).
Emily McCourt (SO, Sun Prairie, Wis.) had 36 assists and a service ace for the Auggies, while libero
Katelyn Berens (SO, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 19 digs.
Amy Jo Opsal (SR, North Mankato, Minn./St. Clair HS), the Auggies' lone senior playing in her final home match at Si Melby Hall, had seven digs and a service ace.
For Hamline (9-19 overall, 1-10 MIAC), Sam Greeney-Hamlin (SO, St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral HS) had 10 kills and a bloc, while Mackenzie Remick (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.) had three blocks (one solo). Sammie Miller (FY, Grand Island, Neb.) had 23 assists, eight digs and two blocks, and Brittany Bredemus (FY, Andover, Minn.) had eight digs.
Augsburg closes its regular season on Saturday (10/29) with a nonconference triangular at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minn., facing Minnesota-Morris at 1 p.m. and host Bethany Lutheran at 3 p.m. Augsburg will open MIAC postseason playoff action on Tuesday (11/1).
