MANKATO, MInn. -- The Augsburg College volleyball team spilt its pair of matches at the Bethany Lutheran College Triangular on Saturday afternoon. The Auggies dropped their first match of the day to the University of Minnesota-Morris in three sets, before earning a five-set victory against host Bethany Lutheran.
Augsburg (16-11 overall) couldn't overcome a strong showing from the Cougars (19-12 overall) as the Auggies fell in three sets (25-22, 25-23, 25-23).
Nikolene Miller (JR, Tomahawk, Wis.) recorded a team-high 13 kills and a .500 hitting percentage in the match, while
Emily McCourt (SO, Sun Prairie, Wis.) recorded 27 assists and five kills for the Auggies in the loss.
Augsburg defensive specialist
Katelyn Berens (SO, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) recorded a team-high 17 digs in the match, while
Tabby Roh (FY, La Crosse, Wis./Central HS) added five blocks.
Against Bethany Lutheran (11-19 overall), Augsburg won the first two sets, before the Vikings rallied to win games three and four. Both teams traded leads throughout the fifth and final set before the Auggies were able to prevail 16-14 and earn their 16th victory of the season (25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 16-14).
Colleen Ourada (SO, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) recorded a match-best 28 kills for Augsburg, while also hitting a team-high .339 during the match. The 28 kills marks a career-best mark for Ourada, and marks the highest single-game kill total since Laura Harms recorded 29 against Nebraska Wesleyan in 20089.
Emily McCourt recorded a match-high 52 assists and six digs for Augsburg, while
Katelyn Berens finished the match with a team-high 32 digs. The match marks the fifth time McCourt has eclipsed the 50-assist mark in a single match, while Berens' 32 digs marks a career-best. According to the
NCAA.org website, McCourt is currently ranked 33rd in the nation in assists per-set with 10.06, while Berens is currently ranked second in the MIAC with a 5.17 dig per-set average.
Augsburg, who will be the No. 6 seed in the upcoming MIAC postseason playoffs, will travel to Arden Hills, Minn., on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. to face No. 3 seed Bethel University at the Robertson Center.
