Auggies drop 2-1 decision at Carleton

BOXSCORE BOXSCORE

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Olivia Muyres (FY, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) scored her fifth goal of the season in the 80th minute, but her Augsburg College women's soccer team could not overcome a 2-0 deficit in a 2-1 loss to host Carleton College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Bell Field.

Muyres scored from Bri Clark (JR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) on a lofting shot over the Carleton goalkeeper in the 80th minute for Augsburg (5-6-1 overall, 2-2-1 MIAC).

Carleton (6-5-1 overall, 3-2-1 MIAC), whoch outshot the Auggies by an 8-6 margin, scored twice in an 8:02 span midway through the second half to take the lead. Ellie Wilson scored an unassisted goal at the 60:55 mark, followed at the 68:57 mark by a goal from Niki Tomita, assisted by Bailey Ulbricht.

"Tough, tough loss," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "We definitely had our share of chances, just did not finish enough. We got stronger as the game went on and did much better in the second half.  However, Carleton's top two scorers got behind us once each in the second half and made us pay."

Katie Gajewski (SO, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) had two saves in goal for Augsburg, while Beth Ashinsky had three saves for Carleton. Jackie Lombard played the last nine minutes in goal for the Knights.

After a five-game stretch of road contests, the Auggies return home to Edor Nelson Field on Tuesday (9/11) at 7:30 p.m., hosting conference-leader St. Olaf.

"It doesn't get any easier as we play nationally ranked St Olaf, who is on the top of the league," Navarre said. "If we are going to accomplish our goals, we are going to have to clean up these mistakes and finish better. The team is still hungry. I have no doubt we will play hard and improve as we go forward with the rest of our season."
