Brittany Dyshaw (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) led all players with a game-high 19 points and
Serenae Levine (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) posted a double-double to lead the Augsburg College women's basketball team to a 70-46 win over North Central College in a nonconference contest on Tuesday night at Clark Danielson Gymnasium.
Dyshaw finished the night with 19 points on 7-of-18 shooting, while adding nine rebounds and two steals to lead Augsburg College (1-0 overall) to a season opening victory over the North Central Rams. Levine also had a great all-around night for the Auggies, recording 10 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, three steals and a blocked shot.
Katie Ahlstrom (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) connected on 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, finishing with 10 points and two blocked shots.
North Central (0-4 overall) was led by Jorie Grenell, who finished with 17 points, which included a 3-for-4 performance from three-point range.
After going down by nine points in the opening minutes of action, the Augies rallied back to tie things up at 13-13 with just over 14 minutes in the first half. The two teams battled for the remainder of the session but the Auggies were able to take a 33-28 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
Augsburg outscored North Central 23-4 over the first 11 minutes of the second half and created a lead the Rams could not overcome. Sixteen Auggies saw action in the contest, with 10 different players figuring into the scoring.
For the game, Augsburg connected on 41.9 percent (26-of-62) of its shots, while holding North Central to just 18-of-45 (40.0 percent). As a team, the Auggies finished 5-of-7 (71.4 percent) from beyond the arc, the Auggies best three-point field goal percentage in more than a decade. Augsburg claimed a 39-30 advantage on the boards and forced 26 North Central turnovers.
Augsburg is off for the Holiday weekend and returns to action on Wednesday (11/30) when it travels to Saint Joseph to take on the College of St. Benedict in the MIAC-opener for both squads.
