Auggies fall to Royals

MINNEAPOLIS -- Serenae Levine (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) led the Augsburg College women's basketball team with 13 points in a 72-45 loss to Bethel University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

Augsburg was led by Levine's 13 points, on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor. Lexi Thompson (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) led the Auggies with four assists and four rebounds, while Brittany Zins (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) finished with eight points and three assists.

Bethel (12-10 overall, 10-9 MIAC) was led by Scottie Moats who finished with a game-high 27 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

The first seven minutes of action were very evenly matched. Bethel then put together a 10-0 run and would go on to shoot 63.2 percent over the remainder first half. The first half deficit proved too much for the Auggies to overcome as foul trouble allowed the Royals a season-high 45 free throw attempts, of which they converted on 34.

For the game, Augsburg shot 32.1 percent (18-of-56), while the Royals connected on 55.9 percent (19-of-34) of their shots. The Auggies collected 17 steals on the afternoon but were outrebounded 41-21.

Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (2/16) traveling to St. Peter to take on Gustavus Adolphus College while Bethel returns to action on Monday (2/14) when it travels to Northfield to take on Carleton College.
