MINNEAPOLIS --
Katie Gajewski (SO, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) collected nine saves in goal for her seventh career shutout, leading the Augsburg College women's soccer team in a 0-0, two-overtime tie with visiting Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday evening at Edor Nelson Field.
Macalester (4-1-1 overall, 1-0-1 MIAC) outshot Augsburg (3-2-1 overall, 1-0-1 MIAC) by a 29-10 margin in the game, but Gajewski stopped all nine shots that were on-goal in the contest. She picked up her fourth shutout of the season and seventh in her 15 collegiate career starts.
Augsburg claimed its second straight shutout in MIAC play, aided by its defense -- starters
Alekzandra Miller (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS),
Lindsey Niederhaus (SR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS),
Carly Reimer (JR, Eagan, Minn./Henry Sibley HS),
Devon Ellena (JR, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) and reserve
Olivia Faison (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS).
"Another great game with Macalester," said Augsburg head coach
Mike Navarre. "Both teams had chances to win. We struggled to get into a rhythm, but Macalester had a lot to do with that. However, we got stronger as the game progressed which is encouraging."
Bri Clark (JR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) and
Olivia Muyres (FY, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) had three shots apiece for Augsburg.
For Macalester, Georgia Cloepfil (SO, Portland, Ore./Lincoln HS) had nine shots and Izzi Speer (SO, Madison, Wis./West HS) had seven shots. Rosie Glenn-Finer (JR, San Francisco, Calif./Lick Wilmerding HS) had two saves in goal for the Scots.
Augsburg hosts Wisconsin-River Falls in a nonconference game on Wednesday (9/21) at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
"We will take the point and move on," Navarre said. "Too many difficult games ahead to look back, starting with our game on Wednesday versus a solid UW-River Falls team."
