Auggies go 3-1 at Pacific Coast Classic

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The Augsburg College volleyball team began the 2011 season with three wins in four matches at the Pacific Coast Classic in Southern California over the weekend. The event featured 11 NCAA Division III teams representing seven different states.

Middle hitter Jamila Lee (JR, Richfield, Minn.) was named to the nine-player All-Tournament Team. Lee hit .328 (28 kills, seven errors in 64 attempts) and had 11 blocks (two solo) during the tournament.

Augsburg def. University of La Verne (Calif.) 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 28-26)

Emily McCourt (SO, Sun Prairie, Wis.) recorded 35 assists, while Colleen Ourada (SO, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS), Micha Sater (JR, Fridley, Minn./Centennial HS) and Nikolene Miller (JR, Tomahawk, Wis.) combined for 30 kills to lead the Auggies to a three-set win in their 2011 season opener. Ourada recorded a team-high 13 kills, while Sater added nine and Miller recorded eight.

Sater added 10 digs, while Jamila Lee (JR, Richfield, Minn.) recorded six block assists in the Augsburg win.     

La Verne, which finished last season with a 19-10 overall record, has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 10 out of the past 11 seasons, and reached the West Region final in 2009.

Augsburg def. Berry College (Ga.) 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-23)

Colleen Ourada recorded a team-high 10 kills, while Emily McCourt added 29 assists to lead Augsburg in a straight-set victory over Berry.

Jamlia Lee added seven kills, while Katelyn Berens (SO, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) recorded a team-high 13 digs in the Auggie win.

Berry setter Stephanie Quinn (SO, Merritt Island, Fla.) recorded 52 assists in the match to lead the Vikings, who finished the 2010 season with an overall record of 22-11.

Setter Emily McCourt recorded 32 assists and Jamila Lee collected nine kills with a .444 hitting percentage to lead the Auggies to their third consecutive win of the 2011 season. 

Micah Sater recorded a team-high 11 kills, while Nikolene Miller recorded three solo blocks for Augsburg. Katelyn Berens and Amy Jo Opsal (SR, North Mankato, Minn./St. Clair HS) each recorded eight digs. 

Chapman University (Calif.) def. Augsburg 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22)

Colleen Ourada recorded a team-high 13 kills without recording a hitting error, but the Auggies were unable to overcome a tough Chapman opponent in their final match of the Pacific Coast Classic. 

Katelyn Berens recorded 17 of the team's 53 digs, while Emily McCourt recorded 32 assists and 10 digs for the Auggies in the loss.

Chapman recorded a 17-11 record in 2010 and return 12 letterwinners this season.
