Auggies sweep at Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Colleen Ourada (SO, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) recorded a team-high 12 kills as the Augsburg College volleyball team cruised to a three-set sweep (25-17, 26-24, 25-22) over Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening.

Augsburg (7-5 overall, 2-1 MIAC) quickly disptatched the Scots (5-10 overall, 0-2 MIAC) in the first set 25-17, before erasing a five-point deficit late in the second set to earn a 26-24 win. The Auggies jumped out to a nine-point lead midway through the third set and were able to fight off a late Macalester rally to win the set 25-22 and earn their fourth three-set sweep of the season. 

For the match, Augsburg recorded a season-high 11 service aces, while only recording two service errors.

Ourada recorded 12 kills while recording a hitting percentage of .308 in the match. Ourada has led the Auggies in kills during seven out of the team's 12 matches this season, including five of the team's seven wins.

Maggie Zirk (JR, Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) recorded seven kills for Augsburg, while Tabby Roh (FY, La Crosse, Wis./Central HS), Jamila Lee (JR, Richfield, Minn.) and Nikolene Miller (JR, Tomahawk, Wis.) each recorded six kills. Roh added five blocks and two service aces, while Miller added five blocks.

Emily McCourt (SO, Sun Prairie, Wis.) recorded a match-high 33 assists as well as six digs and three aces.

In the back row, Augsburg defensive specialist Katelyn Berens (SO, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) led the Auggies with 12 digs, while Amy Jo Opsal (SR, North Mankato, Minn./St. Clair HS) and Mackensie Menke (FY, Prior Lake, Minn./Shakopee HS) added five and four digs, respectively. Opsal added three service aces for Augsburg as well.

The Auggies will enjoy a week off from competiton before returning to the court next Wednesday (9/28) for a MIAC contest against Bethel University in Arden Hills, Minn. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Robertson Center.
