BOXSCORE ST. PAUL, Minn. --
Serenae Levine (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) scored a season-high 20 points to led the Augsburg College women's basketball team in a 62-61 heartbreaker to Hamline University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Monday night at Hutton Arena.
Levine scored a game- and season-high 20 points, on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor and 10-of-13 from the free-throw line, while adding six rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for Augsburg (5-4 overall, 2-4 MIAC) was the duo of
Brittany Dyshaw (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) and
Brittany Zins (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS). Dyshaw scored 15 points with nine rebounds, while Zins finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Hamline (3-6 overall, 2-4 MIAC) finished with four players in double figures, led by Jordan Sammons, who finished with 17 points and five rebounds.
In a game that saw 10 ties and 12 lead changes, it's no wonder the game came down to the final minute of action. Levine was able to hit 1-of-2 from the free throw line to tie the score 61-61 with 38 seconds to play. Augsburg fouled Hamline's Kara Poirier, giving her a shot at the double bonus. Pririer connected on 1-of-2 to give the Pipers a 62-61 lead with 13 seconds left to play. Augsburg turned the ball over, but the Auggie defense didn't give up and forced a turnover of their own, creating one final chance to score with one-tenth of a second remaining. Augsburg was not able to convert on their final attempt as time expired and Hamline claimed the narrow 62-61 victory.
For the game, Augsburg shot 39.6 percent (19-of-48) from the floor, while the Pipers connected on 46.9 percent (23-of-49) of their shots. The Auggies claimed a 34-27 advantage on the boards and were able to connect on double the number of free throws as the Pipers (22-of-29, compared to 11-of-14), but the Auggies committed a season-high 22 turnovers and were outshot from behind the arc (1-of-2, compared to 5-of-12).
Augsburg and Hamline return to action on Wednesday night (1/4) at 7:30 p.m., with the Auggies traveling to St. Paul to take on Macalester and Hamline playing host to Carleton in key MIAC games for both teams.
