BOXSCORE ST. PAUL, Minn. --
Brittany Zins (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) scored 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Augsburg College women's basketball team to a 51-43 victory over St. Catherine University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Butler Center.
With the win, Augsburg moves to 9-7 overall (6-7 MIAC), while St. Catherine falls to 1-15 overall (0-13 MIAC). Under first-year head coach
Bill McKee, Augsburg has now tied the number of wins the team had the past two seasons combined (4-21 in 2009-10, 5-20 in 2010-11). Augsburg's nine wins are already the most since the 2000-01 season (11-13), and with nine games remaining in the regular season, Augsburg has the potential to reach double-digit wins for the first time since 2000-01 (11-13).
Zins posted her second-consecutive double-double, and third this season, with her 20-point, 12-rebound effort. Zins finished 7-of-11 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line, while adding a pair of assists.
Serenae Levine (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) finished with nine points and three assists, while
Brittany Dyshaw (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) posted six points and seven rebounds for the Auggies.
The Wildcats were led by Sarina Baker, who scored a game-high 21 points on an 8-of-12 shooting performance.
Kendra Ware (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) got the Auggies on the board with a jumper at the 17:51 mark, which the Wildcates countered with on their next possession. Zins' jumper at the 16:08 mark gave the Auggies a 4-2 advantage, a lead which they would never relinquish.
Augsburg took a 27-23 lead into the locker room at the half and stretched their lead to as many as 11 in the second half. The Auggie defense held strong in the second-half as they earned the 51-43 victory.
For the game, Augsburg shot 32.8 percent (19-of-58), while St. Catherine connected on 38.1 percent (16-of-42) of its shots. The Auggies claimed a dominant 42-23 advantage on the boards, outscoring the Wildcats 16-4 in second-chance points and 28-16 in points off turnovers.
Augsburg and St. Catherine both return to action on Wednesday (1/25) with Augsburg hosting Bethel University and St. Catherine traveling to Moorhead to take on Concordia College. The Auggies will be looking to revenge a 66-57, early-season loss to the Royals and hit the double-digit win mark for the first time in more than a decade.
